Tables

All tables, with the exception of those with class headers or narrow (see last two variants below), have a minimum width of 600px and are enclosed in a div.x-scroll which allows a table wider than 600px to be scrolled on the x axis within that container. This is the DDS 3 approach to wide tables in narrow screens

The default table has borders between rows. There is no outer border nor a border between columns.

headers variant

Unlike the table variants above, the following has the class headers, and a wrapper div with class x-scroll is not needed. JavaScript writes the appropriate headers attribute in each table cell, using the content of the table header cells in the thead row. At 900px and below, CSS writes the content of the headers attribute in front of each table cell and displays each table row as a description list. To demarcate each table row at 900px and below, striped works best in this approach. NB - this approach is common throughout the buy NSW site currently but will gradually be replaced by the DDS 3.0 approach (see above).

narrow tables

Two-column tables should be avoided. Use a description list (dl.details see above) instead. If a table has only three columns and the content of each is short, apply the class name narrow. Otherwise, wrap the table in div.x-scroll, to avoid breaking the page layout in a narrow screen.
